Into Erewhon

Walking times   The format of this tours involves travel in our 4WD mini-coach to locations in the Hakatere Conservation Park and Erewhon in the Upper Rangitata basin, parking up and then walking. The walking varies in length from a few minutes to over an hour. The walking is not too demanding.

 

Highlights  Vast landscapes and some of the best alpine scenery in New Zealand; wildlife refuge lakes Clearwater & Emma; glacier-fed braided rivers; spring-fed and crystal clear Deep Stream a salmon & trout spawning stream of national importance; Erewhon Station & the Clyde River with views to the Garden of Eden Icefield and the main divide and Mt Sunday. Birds which may be seen include Wrybill, Black-fronted Tern, Southern Crested Grebe, New Zealand Falcon, wetland and pasture species.
