Photography - Special Interest Tours

Maori considered this a sacred plant - puawhananga

Special interest

We can construct tours to suit the interests of the group - geology, conservation, history or alpine flora. We do not restrict ourselves to only follow the itineraries for the listed tours. Parts of different ecotours and walks can be combined.

Photography

We also offer personal guiding for photography tours to prime locations for landscape and nature photography. An early start is often necessary to make the most of the light. (Warren says that all keen natural history photographers should experience sunrise over Maori Lakes at least once in their lifetime).

Photography tours are available any season of the year - winter is a special time for photography in the South Island High Country.

Bush, Bullocks & Diamonds

The historical & geological resources of the Mt Somers and High Country include sawmilling, farming & mining (including the "Diamond rush of the 1890's). They are well displayed & explained in the Staveley Historical & Geological Centre. Historic high country stations (Mt Potts, Erewhon, Mesopotamia) musterer's huts, quarries, mines and lime kilns can all be included in tours as can the story of the enigmatic novelist Samuel Butler and Mesopotamia.
