Tussock & Beech Ecotours provides a self guiding package which includes:
- Accommodation before and after the tramp.
- Self-guiding booklet describing route as well as historical & natural history information
- Hut fees and two night's dinner, bed and breakfast at Mountain Beech Lodge
- Transport to and from the track start and end points. Pick up & delivery to Christchurch if required. ( per person)

Programme
Day 1
Arrive at Staveley mid-afternoon and settle into Ross Cottage. Optional pre-dinner walk to Sharplin Falls. Dinner at Mountain Beech Lodge followed by briefing for Mt Somers Track and an audio visual of the natural history of Mt Somers & Hakatere Conservation Park.
Day 2
Drive to Coalminers Flat at Woolshed Creek the southern end of the Track. Tramp to Woolshed Creek Hut, lunch. Walk to Morgans Stream, Howden Falls, Hydroslide Stream & the water caves. Skinny-dipping in the Emerald Pools or the Spa Pool. Stay night in Woolshed Creek Hut.
Day 3
Tramp over saddle to Pinnacles Hut for lunch stop. Tramp down Bowyers Stream, up and over Duke Knob to Sharplin Falls car park. You are picked up here and driven back to Ross Cottage. Dinner at Mountain Beech Lodge.
Depart from Staveley after breakfast.
Day 4 (optional)
Guided nature tour to Hakaterer Conservation Park & Lake Heron wildlife refuge or to Mt Sunday in Erewhon for a Lord of the Rings tour.
Return to Staveley by 5.00pm for departure to points north or south.

1. Woolshed Creek to Sharplin Falls (formerly known as Mt Somers Walkway)

Distance 17km (9 hours tramping time)
Huts Woolshed Creek (26 bunks) 3 hours from Woolshed Creek car park and picnic area; Pinnacles (18 bunks) 3 hours from Woolshed Creek Hut.
2. Mt Somers Track (complete circuit of mountain)
Duration 2 days
Distance 25 km (16 hours tramping time)
Huts Pinnacles 3 hours from Sharplin Falls car park and picnic area ; Woolshed Creek (26 bunks) 3 hours from Pinnacles hut; Caves Stream shelter (no bunks) 5 ½ hours from Woolshed Creek Hut.
Mt Somers/Te Kie Kie (1687m) is an ancient volcanic mountain, part of the foothills of the Southern Alps. The track completes a circuit of the mountain. There are two options for tramping this track:
- The most popular is from Woolshed Creek to Sharplin Falls (formerly known as the Mt Somers Subalpine Walkway) which should be started form Coalminers Flat picnic area beside Woolshed Creek.
- The more demanding option, which should only be attempted by experienced and fit trampers, is the complete circuit of the mountain which should be started at the Sharplin Falls Car Park and walked in an anti-clockwise direction (ie to Pinnacles,Woolshed Creek Huts and returning to Sharplin Falls via the South Face section of the track).
